Durable, compact camera
Hi all, I am a graphic designer who knows very little about cameras. I am planning to buy an ultra compact camera small enough so that I can carry it with me ALL the time in my pocket. However, I am not sure if those cameras can withstand the impacts of carrying in my pocket and receive different degrees of pressure from time to time. Can someone give me some advice about which camera I should purchase? I just read a review about how the LCD on SD series can break off easily. Of course, since those pictures will be used for graphic design, I must take the quality of picture into consideration. So basically I need a durable ultra compact that takes good pictures.
I really don’t care about the price if it’s worth buying. :)

ok, i heard some rumors that the new sd550 uses stronger 2.5' manufactured by other company. is it true? i am very interested in sd series
also, since a620 does have a flip in screen, i think it should protect the camera with out a case. but my question is....does it really fit in my pocket?

I own the Canon SD550 and it is an excellent ultracompact - very solid, all metal build and durable and great image quality - very easy to use too. The new 2.5 LCD has been reinforced and you can also place a clear plastic film on it to protect it from scratches. The slightly smaller SD450 (5 mp.) is also a solid camera - same LCD. The A620 is an excellent model too, but it is made of plastic and not what I would call a pocket camera.

I have an SD300 that has been through hell (backpacking, skiing, mountaineering) and my LCD has had no problems, so from my experience the LCDs are pretty robust. I'd get a small case for it and not worry about it.

Oh, and one more question-since i do have a 3mb/sec and a 10mb/sec card for the camera, what kind of movie can I take with those 2 card?

You won't be limited by your memory card, you can take full advantage of all video modes on the camera. Again, I have a basic Sandisk 1 Gig card on the SD300 (same video modes) and all work without problems. I typically shoot the 480x640 30fps mode, which is quite excellent. It's possible that your slower card is slower than the Sandisk I have, in which case you might be limited, but I doubt it.
