f/2.7 on Canon S2 IS?

I've noticed that most of the time f/2.7 isn't available in Av or M mode, but the camera supports f/2.7 and I find that Auto mode frequently selects f/2.7. How can I get f/2.7 available?

You only can have 2.7 if you are in wide position. The further you zoom in the higher F-value you get. This has to do with the extra distance the light has to travel to reach the sensor after entering the lens.
