View Full Version : S2 Future Firmware updates?
I am wondering if canon ever plans on updating the firmware for the S2 in the near future? i mean its stuck at 1.00 still. If they do update the firmware i hope they can support raw or tiff atleast :(. I'd be nice to at least have a firmware update.

well, I mailed some issues to the canon support.
in every answer I heard: "works as designed" or "sorry, you have to live with that problem". they told definitively that there is no firmware update until today.

Firmware updates are kinda risky, there really isnt a need to update the firmware unless there are lots of issues that people keep having. Ive yet to hear of any that need an update.
If anything happens in the middle of an update the whole camera is junk. why risk that for a few mods?

I agree

I do not agree. One of my NIKON had a little problem. They fixed it a short period after launch, I cannot believe that up to that time hundreds of clients had written mails to NIKON.

Don't misunderstand - I dont wanna have new skins in the cameras menu or such things.
P1) in some outdoor circumstances I have several white vertical bars in the viewfinder/LCD-Panel. Fortunally you cannot find them on the photo, but it makes focusing difficult.
P2) autofocusing often fails in indoor situations where you cannot use the flash and even with a tripod you get a lot of yellow rectangles until you get a green one.
P3) the hardest thing for me is the slow reaction - the enormous time that passes from the moment you press the release button and until the shutter starts working. IMHO it is worth nothing if your camara provides a 1/2000 shutter speed but you need 0.6 seconds until the shutter starts working. With this camera you can forget taking sports photos. (Maybe this is the reason for the missing builtin 'sports theme')
P4) I put a 'Extrememory 2GB' card into the S2 and powerd her on - black viewfinder, white message "card is write protect" which was NOT so. I put it in an OLDER NIKON formatted and used it.
