I'm having problems with my M410 and all I get from the place of purchase is the run around. I need someone to help me out on a few things. I'm only a novice

I use a 510MB card and could take 264 shots at the highest settings & everything worked ok for the 1st month, suddenly I'm taking 744, 521, 356 I never know how many I will get. The photos aren't clear, I can't take night shots or even late afternoon shots. The camera still tells me, when the card is empty, I can take 264 shots but takes how ever many it chooses. Now, once I download and unplug my camera from the computer, I can't view the images on the card, it says there are no images but if I go to take a photo I can't cos my memory card is full. To take photos I have to reformat. I was told my card had a corrupt file on it but the same thing happened with a new card. Some times it will erase all photos as soon as I unplug. When sent away, I was told there was nothing wrong with it. I've had it for 6 months and I have taken it back several times and I'm still no better off.

Well the issue with the number of pictures is usually an easy one to understand. That number that is displayed to tell you how many pics you have left is just an estimate - ie: your camera says the average file is xMB, this card is 512MB so I can take X amount of shots. In reality the size of the image is changed due to the type of photograph. If you shoot a completely black room the file will not be nearly as large as if you take a shot of a landscape or portrait. Normally if your camera says it can take 200 pictures it won't fluctuate too much away from this. The fact that your camera is going from 744 down to 356 is very unusual and probably has to do with a change in the resolution or an error in the camera, but basically slight fluctuation of 50-75 shots is normal.

The issue with the memory card not being read propery after you copy the pictures is weird, and unfortunately I cannot give you an answer. If I were you I would upgrade your firmware and if you are still having problems contact the manufacturer - there are laws against lemon products, I am sure if you complain enough they will replace your product.
Good Luck
Ken
