Basketball pictures

I recently purchased a Sony DSC-W7 Cyber-Shot. I travel to different sporting events across the country and take my camera with me to take some photos. I'm not having much luck with the new camera however. Most of the pictures I take appear blurry. Several of the shots will have one basketball player that looks perfectly normal while another player near him will appear out of focus.

Any help in what I am doing wrong would be appreciated. I have all of the settings on normal or auto mode. I've owned a Sony digital camera before and have never had any problems. This is supposed to be an upgraded camera for me, but I'm ready to switch back to my old one.

Indoor sports is one of the most expensive things to shoot, due to the heavy lens requirements. I would seriously consider a DSLR if you can afford the type of lens you'd need to shoot such events.
