Hello. I hope someone can help me. I have an S70, but imagine anyone who has a digital camera and knows a little something about them could help me with this problem.

My camera's screen is black when I try to take pictures, and no image is taken, but the black is recorded as though it is a picture. The menu/formats show up on the screen, but no image- as if the shutter is closed. There is no image at all when I have camera set to take pics. I am able to view pictures I recorded on my card before this happened, so I know the screen is ok. It happens in auto and all other settings, so I don't think I accidentally set something but maybe.

Does a digital camera even have a shutter???

Any suggestions?

Thanks for any help.

Some Digital Camera's have actual Shutters, they are DSLR's (Canon 1ds Mark II, Canon 1d Mark II N, Canon 20d, Rebel XT, Nikon D200, Nikon D70, Nikon D50 etc. etc.) However your S70 does not have an actual shutter, instead a virtual electronic shutter. Unfortunately it doesn't sound like your camera will be fixed by a remedy someone on this forum can offer you. It sounds like you will either have to send it for service (canon service center) or purchase a new camera. Canon Service Center will probably charge over $100 to fix the camera (if it is out of warranty).
Good Luck
