I am going on a vacation soo and I don't want to bring my laptop along. I was wondering if there was a device that I could transfer my images to so I do not have to buy too many memory cards?

Yes, there are several portable photo storage devices in different price ranges and abilities. Some let you view the shot and some just let you dump your card to them. Epson, Jobo, Wolverine, and MediaGear are a few that I know of. They must have been a hot item for Christmas because some online stores are out of the ones I've been looking at. I've got a trip in Feb. and need one also.
Good luck.

At Costco - Yes, you can buy there without a membership - they add a 5% premium charge. They do accept credit cards.

Here are 3 from Adorama. The MediaGear & Jobo are on backorder at the moment. I guess it depends how quick you need them. They are storage only.

Purchase memory cards...
Memory is so cheap right now it is the best thing to do. I purchased a RCA LYRA (RD2780) $300 for 20GB of storage w/ color screen. When I purchased it (Brand New), it was a great deal and worked excellent. I could dump my memory cards and for the price of 3, 1GB CF cards, I had the equivalent of 20. Well after the device literally melted for God knows why, I lost all my pictures and now have to spend $500+ to get the hard drive restored (I already tried myself - doesn't work). Basically what I am trying to say is those devices are much more complex, and not nearly as stable as flash memory. Just spend whatever you would on a Hard Drive Device ($300, $400) on some extra memory cards. With the price of memory now, you can probably get 2-4GB of storage space. Even a 2 week vacation will probably not use that much. Just my opinion

Ken - sorry to hear about your device and that is a concern of mine. The 3 units I mentioned run from $130 to $185 and have from 20gb to 40gb storage. That would only let me buy about 2GB. I've got a 9 day trip to New Mexico, nothing but shooting those 9 days, and I only shoot RAW. At the moment I have 1-512mb & 1-1gb Sandisk Ultra II cards. All I'm hoping is that I can get home with no problems from it. It'll probably be the only time I need it and may be for sale after the trip. Hopefully, I'll also be burning to a cd if my brother brings a laptop. Am I nervous? You betcha. Many things have gone thru my head that could go wrong. Ultimately, I have to have a little faith in the equipment.
But, boy will I be ticked if I get home with no photos!!

Is the new iPod a good idea because it can store up to 25,000 photos (or so it says) plus music and I was planning on buying a new one anyways?

Well I hope it all works out for you. I definitely think my situation was a fluke, as I don't see portable mp3/mpeg players melting all over the place. For your situation it definitely seems like the correct device. Just be careful with it, keep it secure and well protected.
