Hi my names dan.New too the digital picture world limited experience all around in photography. But my father gave me a old om-1 olympus with lenses ranging in size.18-125mm f/3.5-5.6.vivitar series 1 70-210mm f/3.5.Vivitar 37-70mm f/2.8-3.8.olympus zuiko 50mm f/1.4.These are a few of the lens there was also a tele converter.

I know i will have too get a adapter too get this too work with a current dslr.
And that i will lose any auto focus function.

I would just use the camera that is with it but i'm not very experienced and would like the ability too shot alot of pictures and svae them for review and not waste all the film.

Questions
1.Is it even worth trying too use these older lenses.

2.what other camera functions would i be losing.I know every camera is different was just in general.

3.Does using a adapter ring affect quiloty of pics.

Thanks in advance. Dan

An adapter is available for using OM lenses on the Olympus 4/3 digital mount. Some of the older lenses are very, very good. You will have to use them in manual focus mode, but I'm not sure what other functions will be affected. The adapter ring does not affect optics, so no worry there.

You might want to consult some members of the DRReview Oly dSLR forum (http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/forum.asp?forum=1022) since I know some people there have used OM lenses.

i use an OM lens on my E-300 sometimes.

you lose auto-focus and obviously aperture control via the camera (must use aperture ring on lens). metering (center-weighted) is a little sketchy sometimes with OM lenses, so i shoot RAW. you can shoot in either aperture priority or manual mode. you have to use stop-down metering (focus at widest aperture, stop down using the aperture ring to desired aperture, meter, and shoot.). that's about it i think.
