Gene, these are great images! I'm saving to buy an FZ30 this spring, and was wondering what settings you recommend for general photography. (Although I'm trying to include more people in my photos, the three you posted would easily be my favorite types of subjects!)

Does it help to shut off the in-camera NR? Are you more satisfied with shutter or aperature control, or do you primarily use the program setting? I would be grateful for your response (which I'll print off, so I won't lose it as it 'leaves the forum').

I use program mode most of the time and while I really
believe some of the settings vary by the way we each
use a camera, but here are some of my favorite settings
1 Area fast focus
Center weighted metering
Contrast on low
NR on low
The other settings on standard or High.
And I do not see a need for exposure compensation on
the FZ30 but others do not share my opinion and use a minus comp.
Some seem to have a WB problem also but again
I do not see that either.
As I said it seems to be different for how we use the
camera, especially the way we meter.

You can not turn NR off.. but I leave it on low, I keep saying if a photo is properly exposed the noise thing is way overblown

The FZ30 is very easy to use, and the results can be really great.
When I first got the FZ30 I stuck a TCon 17 on and went to the lake,
I took 434 photos with only 2 of them not in focus....thats really
amazing and such a great improvement over the results I got with he previous FZ's.
( which I really like or I would not have got the FZ30)
