Have a brand new P100 and the lens will not retract. Message says to close and re-open. Of course that does not work. Have removed battery, reinstalled. Any suggestions?

I had the same problem with mine, but it's because I dropped it and got dirt in between the lenses! Tried everything including using compressed air - which made it worse!!
I also seen it with a bad or very low battery.
I finally got it to retract, but I figured it was broke anyway, jiggled the lenses until it got freed. Wouldn't recommend that with a new camera!

Exchange it. If it's that new, take advantage of calling it a "defective product" and get a new copy.

Hi there, i am in the same place,
I just bought a NEW P100 from STAPLES and  the lens is stuck after an hr of use for apparantly no reason even though i am using the camera with the a/c power adapter so there is no shortage of power
Luckily its new so i contacted staples immediately and got a New one in exchange,
I could have easily got my money back but i love this camera so much that i cannot help having it despite serious problems like this ,
After all , the more advanced the technology , the more likely things can go wrong ,
Also, I have a Nikon Coolpix 2100 :) as a back up for situations like this , not to mention my dearest :p Casion Exilim S2 which has a fixed lens so no problems of stuck lens here !!!
Good luck !
