If you have more than one Digital Camera - do you have a preference?
How do they compare??
Is it a clear cut winner for one of them??
Or maybe it isn't quite so straight forward???
The greatest differences may be with SLR vs Point and Shoot
How do your's compare???
Here's my account, I will try to make it brief!
KM A-200 vs Olympus C-740UZ
'Clearly' the A-200 has the greater resolution.
The C-740 always produces pleasing results -
though the A-200 will make a more accurate recording.
The C-740 flash is generally better and more consistant,
possibly the greater battery resource helps here. So
in that respect the C-740 is better for your Christmas
day family photos...
- however ~
The A-200 wide angle is better for indoor shots. !
(why is nothing ever easy?!)
The manual zoom on the A-200 is more user friendly
The screens and controls are more intuative on the A-200
The C-740 wins in the long zoom department 380mm vs 200mm
Both can be slower in low light - but the A-200 gets in
focus shots MORE often in low light. (Neither are too bad)
The macro on the C-740 is easier in use, but the Super macro has to
be found via a series of menu screens.
The A-200 macro is just a flick of a switch on the lens - but only works
at extreem wide angle - or at the telephoto end.
To summarise: -
For glowing, impresively sharp and colourfull pics the C-740 will
not fail to please
For natural accurate and highly detailed photos the A-200 is better.
Let's hear about yours .....................

I have 2 XTs and they're nearly identical in all respects. :D
Oh come on...like you didn't see that one coming!

Interesting thread! I'll post a comparison between my Sony H1 and Nikon D50 once I get the D50 (sunday) :)

Whichever one gives me what I want.
Oh wait we're talkin' about the twin CAMERAS...ok...ummm...the one that makes me look more like a pro. Shit I guess that's neither.

Have a Nikon coolpix 8800 8mp fixed-lens camera with a big chunck of glass in it. Takes very nice sharp pictures, but when I compare them to my new Canon Rebel XT's larger cmos 8mp sensor with a good lens; theres not really a comparison. The smaller sensor on the Nikon seems to blend skin tones together a lot more and capture a little less detail..It also needs more light to get a great photo. With the Rebel XT the skins tones are much more natural and have a greater dynamic range with more details abound. It's just a world of difference now. Any fixed lens camera has lots of noise at higher ISOs..not with my Rebel XT. The Nikon's AF assist lamp isn't as effective as Canon's strobe flash in dim/dark lighting situations. I finally without a doubt have a DSLR producing images better than the majority of 35mm film SLRs. these prints are amazing with a nice piece of L glass. I can't wait to do some serious portrait work outdoors!:D

wxcloud9xw ~ That's really interesting to hear first hand - I know both are
well respected cameras, so yours is a good testimony for DSLR's ~
were I to buy one tomorrow the Canon 350 is one of the highest on my list.

I had my A95 and my XT for a while.
Man, I'm telling you, I wish I hadn't sold the A95 ;)

I own both (or atleast have acess to) the Canon S2 IS and the Panasonic FZ20.
The FZ20 overall seem to give slightly better image quality with more natural colours in the photos. Although I have not found much difference between the two, and I only notice the differences when I compare images from both side to side.
Overall I find myself using the S2 much more often then the FZ20, the main reason is its smaller more compact size means it is easier to take with me. (For that reason I am tempted to purchase a Nikon Coolpix S4 and sell the Canon).
Actually, I have 4 digital cameras...
Canon S1 IS
Nikon 995
Nikon 3100
Canon XT
The 3100 is my shirt-pocket camera. I carry this when I don'want to carry a camera.
The Nikon 995 is what I use for macro photos and for photographing books.
The S1 is what I use for my stepson's school sports and school plays (it does video too). It's also handy for when I want an SLR but don['t want to carry one.
My XT is more for my creative photography. I wish it had a split-screen viewfinder and an aperture ring on the lenses.
Each has a specific purpose.

An XT/350 and an A-95 would have been a great combination!
Very interesting everyone - anyone else care to add something??

i had an a80 when i had my digital rebel/300d and XT, and i've got to say that i never used to the A80 in place of the dslrs. i guess i felt that if i were going somewhere and it wasn't worth bringing the dslr along, it was worth bringing any camera along at all. the dslrs were IMO just way beyond the a80 in capabilities that i didn't even want to use it. now i just have the XT.
in comparing the 300d(hacked) and XT, the 300d had selectable MLU delay times and overall better implementation of MLU, quieter shutter release sound, selectable quality of jpeg with RAW recording, better LCD, less functions buried in the menu and more in the smaller monochrome LCD, a standard battery size that works with other canon dslrs, and a more comfortable grip. the XT has overall better AF, much better startup, buffer, playback speed, resolution, is lighter and smaller, has a faster charging battery, etc. so the XT is still the better camera.
the casio ex750(mainly used by my girlfriend) is better in almost every way compared to the a80, except for the rotating LCD for shooting in odd angles. i see less lost detail with the casio than the a80. the casio actually does pretty well with picture quality except that pictures don't come out too good if you goof/don't have time and don't shoot close to ideal settings. for example one picture i really liked was shot with the casio with the wrong white balance and was slightly dark - the picture was incredibly difficult to salvage, even though it would have been a very easy fix if shot in RAW with a DSLR. do note that this is not a fault of the casio in particular, rather the characteristics of JPEG images. RAW is far superior in this regard. having a nice movie mode (or a camcorder) is something that a dslr can never replace though.

Both of my digicams are Canon, A510 and S2. I love both cameras. Both take decent pictures, but the S2 does a better job with picture quality. I take the S2 with me when I plan to take lots of pictures, or when I think I will want to shoot a bit of video, the good picture quality and the 12x zoom and the easy access movie feature make this a great choice for going to the national parks to get wildlife shots or going to weddings where a little video makes a fun option, any time I plan to take a lot of pictures, like vacations, outings, nature hikes, etc., the S2 is my choice. It is more bulky than the A510 and that is its biggest drawback.
My A510 is my first choice when I am not really expecting to take pictures, but want a camera “just in case”. This is the camera I carry with me everywhere, just in case I see something unusual that I want a picture of. I take the A510 to restaurants, dance clubs, work, and also the amusement park where a bigger camera gets in the way of me riding the coasters. It is an inexpensive camera so I am not as worried about damage, it takes good pictures and is small enough to fit in my pocket. Perfect for those unexpected photo ops that only come along rarely but if you don’t have some kind of camera with you, you have regrets later and wish you had something.
