Geez, is that a lens or a cannon? :D That's some incredible reach on the higher crop factor DSLRs :)

I know a guy (not personally obviously) in the dpreview forums who has one. It's an excellent lens optically. He calls it the Sigmonster. Not sure if he started that or not but others call it the same.

i've seen some awesome bird photos taken with that lens. image quality is seems very good. i'd image keeping the shutter speed high enough would be difficult, even with a tripod. i suppose many would opt for a canon 600 f4 IS + 1.4x TC at this price range.

Yeah no doubt. 1/2x my ass! lol. The guy from dpreview has his on a gimbal (sp?) head though so that helps immensely.

I've heard it called the "big bertha," though it's a pretty common monicker.
