This is going to sound crazy.....I have a Nikon 8700, D-50 and a 5900....I shoot watches and watch straps for my 13 web sites.....

I swear the 5900 gives me the best color of the 3 cameras....I have had professional photographers look at the colors of the watch straps and the pictures from each camera and they could not believe how the 8700 and the D-50 change the color and the 5900 does not.

Now I must admit the 8700 is 5% clearer and the D-50 with Macro lens is another 10% clearer....but overall the 5900 is the one I keep going back to for my webshots which I take everyday of new stock coming in....

Maybe I need a different brand.... because i need the calrity without the color change....any suggestions

Thank you

Elliot

In my opinion and experience I have mostly found that Canon gives the most natural results with colours of materials you know (glass, metal, leather and such) when you take care of using the right white balance.

But you have to take into consideration that maybe your computer(screen) is a factor in showing the colours a bit differently? The D50 usually is quite good.

computer screen that I compare the actual wtach and/or watch strap with the pics form the 5900, 8700 and the D-50.....

So even if the computer screen was/is off the 3 pictures still show the 5900 P & S to be the closest.

Is there a program to get the monitor right on target?

Which Canon do you find to be the best for Macro....I have been told the new 620A then the Pro1 then some "almost SLR's"

Thank you

Nikon Coolpix 950 / 990 / 995 / 4500 are still the best camera for macro. They are old, but none are better for macro. (I wish Nikon would release a new prosumer with that kind of quality)

then it goes in line as to why my 5900 takes better pictures than the 8700 or the D-50 for strictly macro work....True?

What lens do you have on the D50? Also, what color space is it set to? Are you shooting RAW? I find it hard to believe the D50 wouldn't be as good as a 5900 in anything, save portability...

We took the D-50 with a Macro 60mm lens and pre-set the White Balance....took the same shot with 8700 and the 5900 and shot this watch strap:

At Samy's Camera in Los Angeles.....they stood there amazed as they did the shooting....and with their no refund policy proceeded to refund the money for the D-50 and Macro......

For the Past year I have felt the color was off on my 8700 Nikon....so I bought the point and shoot 5900 and the color is perfect.....Same monitor for viewing.....now if I could only get the great color with more clarity...I may sell some product on the internet.

Thank you
