Camera w/ Automatic Photo Sequence Function

Hello,

I need to buy a digital camera that has a function where you can set it to automatically take a photo at set intervals (ideally as often as every 1/2 second) and over a relatively longer time (ideally over the course of hours, not just minutes or seconds).

Are there any digital cameras that have a feature like this? Any ideas or advice would be appreciated.

I know the pro1 had such a feature but I don't know over what duration or if it was required to be attached to PC to do it...

Look for digital cameras that have a Time Lapse function, as that's what this is called. You usually need to either have a large memory card (depending on the length of time lapse performed) or be attached to a PC (a must for Remote Capture). You also need to run the camera on an AC adapter, as the battery will die along the way :)

I would purchase as large a memory card as I could for the camera, and probably purchase multiples so I can use it all day. And I would just buy a lot of batteries -- that's not a problem.

But do you know of any specific models of camera that have this function and can do it over long periods of time? Like 1/2 hour, 1 hour, etc.? And set if for literally every second? For as much as the memory card will hold?

Other considerations I have is that I need a camera that is as small as possible, and ideally one that makes no noise when it takes a photo (hearing any sound, even just a very subtle click every split second could get pretty annoying ;)

Intervalometer - That is the word you are looking for.

Canon offers that feature on certain models.

Interval can be set from 1 minute to 60 minutes.
Shots can be set from 2 to 100.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I need a camera that will do many more than just 100 shots. Are there any that you can set to automatically do thousands?

Come to think of it, maybe there's a camcorder w/ memory stick that could do what I'm looking to do. Anyone have any suggestions on that front?
