Hello, everyone hope your day is going fine.. I have a bit of a dilemma and any help would GREATLY be appreciated, I have read the previous reviews but none I found are specific about my question... here it goes..
I have been greatly considering the canon g6, I have no experience in manual controls but open to learn. Every camera I have had I use automatic shooting modes. But now I would like to step up since my daughter has come along to take portrait quality shots of her. I have read that the G6 is not very good for sports action stuff due to fast movement, does my daughter fall into that category beings she is 18 months and is a speed demon running around. I won't be able to take still pics all the time, most will be outside waiting for the right shot while she is being herself and exploring. I didn't know if there is a huge difference between the rebel, and rebel XT. Almost every person review I've read about the G6 they all have liked it but wish they would of just got the XT, or they are selling G6 for XT due to constraints of limitations. I'm kinda on a budget, and if the 300 would give me same performance for a beginner as XT then that would be great. I don't want to waste money of course and would want to spend it on a camera that is going to be used for another 3-4 years before being updated. I am only putting in the G6 in with the Digital Rebels because I am a beginner at anything that is done manual with the camera, and I will have to learn (which I'm pretty good at the techy stuff) I just want a camera that can take enlargeable prints.. I don't know if I should put money into something that has features I will never use.. I won't be really using the camera except for family portraits and pictures for friends.. I am greatly appreciative for your time to read this, Happy Holidays and have a nice day. Thanks!

Honestly, I would go for a 350 out of those options. The 300 and G6 are both long in the tooth by now, the 300 already being replaced by the 350 and the G6 due for a replacement. A DSLR will have the speed you want to capture the little ones running around :D That's why I'm going for one, to snag shots of my 15 month old when he's running around like a madman :)

LOL, I know what you mean, I appreciate the advice. Do you know if the kit lens it comes with is adequate enough for those type shots? I was thinking of getting body only and picking up the 18mm 55mm(I think I git it right) lens one ebay for about 40 bucks... but there are so many types I have no idea what I'm looking for! lol... oh geez....

I've heard plenty of bad things about the kit lens. Apparently a 50mm 1.8 lens (about $100USD) is really good for indoor (or low light for that matter) shots of any kind. I plan to get one when I get a D50 :) May not be able to zoom, but it'll get a sharp picture! Check out the Lens Guide in the lens forum :D

Is the d50 as good as rebel xt? I haven't really read about that much, I read the review on here and it seems to be pretty close to equal.. Except the d50 is about 100 cheaper. Any suggestions for these 2? I tried to compare the Rebel's, Rebel's XT and D50 photo gallery to see if there is much difference. The Rebel's photo quality isn't really noticeably different to me (beginners eye, lol) but I honestly don't see quality difference thats that dramatic.. Any help, will help,:D Thanks!

"as good" is a relative term. Both are nice cameras. It really just comes down to personal preference. The D50 is less expensive (I saw it for $529 body only, $633 with 18-55 lens the other day). I personally am getting the D50 because I have bigger hands and the Nikon feels better in my hands than the smaller Canon. The D50 is also heavier (a plus in my opinion, for balancing reasons), but feels more well-built than the Rebel. The Canon has 2 more megapixels, which isn't much. The image quality is a little better than the Nikon, but not all that noticeable. You really can't go wrong with either camera, it just depends on your taste and which one feels better to use. :)

The D50 is geared as more of a consumer DSLR, and even has a "Child" shooting mode. Thought I'd point that out since you'll be photographing children like I will :D

I thank you very much for your responses, you have really helped me in my decision, I think I'm going to go with the D50, from beachcamera.com I suppose. You have been very helpful and you are appreciated, Thanks!! Oh one more question if you could please, then I leave you alone lol..;) You have any recommendation for a good all around lens that ain't to pricey for my purposes? Thanks Again!!

No problem at all, glad I could help :) Beach Camera is actually where I saw those prices :D I'd suggest looking around the lens forum for more detailed info on lenses, but many would say to get the Nikon 50mm f1.8 lens at around $100. Enjoy the camera! :D

I'd go with the 300D/Rebel personally. It's quite a capable camera and if you get your lenses secondhand from KEH.com then you'll get decent lenses. Lenses are something you build up while cameras come and go.
