View Full Version : Zoom and action shots are important but do I need the dSLR?

I am upgrading from a Minolta 4MP and this next purchase should last me a good while for my uses. Therefore, I need lots of zoom (outdoor photography) like a 12X or a dSLR lens and I would like the ability to shoot some indoor basketball pics of the kids in typical poor lighting of gyms. Since I plan on keeping the camera I would like more MP's because I also crop hence more MP's. Printing is limited to 4x6, 5x7, maybe 8x10 at most. Pics are family, vacation, and basketball for the most part.

I know a dSLR is the way to go but is it the only way for me? It is hard to justify those prices just for basketball pics. Are none of the upper end point and shoots capable of decent indoor basketball pics? I know I could get by on everything else.

Thanks.

Maybe a Fuji finepix S5200 may already offer what you need.
