Hi im new hear and to tell the truth dont know much about taking pics:(
but hope to learn what i need to know from this great site

well hear we go i am into keeping very high end tropical fish and have always had problems getting good shots with the cam i had not that good i know it was a olpimpus mju 400

well it was my birthday a few days ago and i was give a FZ20 which im hopeing will be good enought to take the sort of shots i want

the main problem i had with the MJU400 was that i was always getting reflection from the flash of the tank glass and one fish that is very matalic

any tips or extra bits of kit you guys think i would need to get the best out of the fz20 when takeing water shots through glass

thanks in advance

Richard

Get a Circular Polarizing filter.

Either a 72mm one (size of FZ20's lens thread) OR
have it in any other size (55mm, 58mm, 62mm etc) and get an adapter to step down from 72mm to whatever size u got.

The polarizer may be a good Idea but dump the Panasonic adapter and get an aftermarket one like Lovelifes...That will save the price of the adapter when you purchase the filter and will also allow the use of a closeup lens which I bet you will find that you would also like .

read this in a book and tried once on an aquarium tank (also in windows) and got good results with my fz20. i put the lens squarely on the glass and fired away. no flash but tried several settings (depending on the available light) in aperture priority mode from about 1/30s to 1/200s. hope this helps.

A linear (less expensive) polarizer does actually just as good of a job.
