NiMH Batteries - Can I use a mix?

Hi,

Am all prepared to receive the Canon A610 I had asked a friend to get for me. In preperation for this, I checked the NiMH Batteries I had and found that there were 2 of 2100, 1 of 1750 and 2 of 1200 (Mah I presume).

Now, I was just wondering ... would it be a problem if I popped in the 2 of 2100 and one each of 1750 and 1200 or do they all have to be the same? I do not mind if the no. of possible shots per re-charge are reduced a lil bit owing to this as I do not take pictures on the trot, its mostly restricted to occassions!

My concern is specially owing to the fact that I can't seem to find a pair of 2100s anymore and most shops have the 2500 .... which would mean that I would still have to mix the 2500 with the 2100 or buy all four 2500s.

Since I've already put in for the camera, I'd like to postpone any furthur investment (even if its small) for atleast a couple of months .... besides, I could not think of alternate uses for the 5 batteries I have!

The simple answer is No, they all don't have to be the same mAH. But when you mix them like that - two 2100s, one 1750 and one 1200 - you are reducing the effectiveness of the larger capacity batteries. As soon as the 1200 runs out of gas, all four will need to be recharged. In other words, the longevity of your battery set is only as good as the lowest capacity battery. It won't hurt anything, but you're recycling those 2100s unnecessarily. I'd suggest getting a set of 2500s or 2600s and using those other batteries for less critical power needs like remote controls and kids' toys.

Well, I guess I'll then first try and find a pair of 2100s .... failing which I guess I'll sheel out the extra bit for the 2500 or 2600 as you suggested!

Kids toys, well, I've stopped buying them toys ... have convinced them that they are beyond that age ;) :p and have told them to get interested in books instead!

So that leave them for use my remotes!

For 10 bucks you can get a 4-pack of 2500mAh NiMH's. Even Ritz has these for $10. You will be a happier camper with 4 good batteries. It's worth the $10.

Yepper - $10 bucks for 4 AA Energizer batteries at Wally World, you don't even have to go out of your way.

As for price, you'll folks out there in the US of A sure are lucky when it comes to prices of both cameras and accessories! Here in Kuwait where I live, a pair cost like USD 14/-, so I guess I'll have to keep aside 28 for this or find a pair of 2100's
