Does anyone have any special advice for getting good/great shots of christmas lights and lawn decorations? As well as lighted cristmas trees and such. It seems like these are tricky subjects to get right, if the exposure time is too long the lights grow too larger than life sizes and if the exposure time is too short the lights are the only thing visible making it look like the lights are floating. I have had decent results with ISO 200 and setting my camera to the dialed "night shot" setting and not turn on the flash, but noting special.
