half pressed shutter button

We had some big electrical storms pass by this week. I ventured out (under cover of course) to try and get that illusive lightning shot. I set the focus to manual and did a quick autofocus to set the camera. I then held the shutter button half pressed until i wanted to take my shot......QUESTION......can i do any damage to my pride and joy (S7000) by continually holding the shutter button down ....silently waiting for that perfect moment.

any help or advise will be greatfully accepted
