View Full Version : Flash on H1 too bright?

When using the auto setting (green camera on the dial), the flash really washes out my subjects.

I know, I know, I shouldn't be using the auto setting, but I need to keep things simple for some of the people who use the camera.

Even on the "P" setting, the flash is somewhat bright, and even when I choose "flash level - " in the menu.

Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?
Thanks.

You can probably turn down the flash power even in the auto setting, if you can't do that you might be able to underexpose by 1/2 or 1 stop. I am not too familiar with the camera, so these suggestions might not work.

Thanks for the suggestion, but you are not allowed to turn down the flash power or underexpose in the Auto setting on the H1

I just got this camera but am not new to digitals. I too have too bright of a flash in my pictures. I cannot figure out a way to trurn the flash off on this camera. I have lowered the flash as well. Is there a way to turn the flash off? Or get pictures with subjects that are not overflashed? I am taking pictures in well lit indoors with a lot of natural lighting.

Hi I have the H1 too and suffer from exactly the same problem.

You can turn down the intensity of the flash it's available as an option on the menu system - I'm afraid I don't have my camera with me so I can't describe in exact detail how, but it is there along with other stuff like white balance, ISO and all that lot. The bad news is - it seemed to make little or no difference.

To turn the flash off - I think from memory if you press the top button of the four on thee back of the camera, anyway the one with the lightning strike next to it.

If anyone has anymore suggestions on reducing intensity I'd love to hear them, I've had to resort to putting baking paper over the flah with an elastic band hardly ideal.

Thanks!

jimfrostis is right about the position of the flash button. The lowest setting is still overpowering, unfortunately.

I'm still using the Soft Screen and getting pretty good results from it. There are other options that seem to work for people:

Cut an opening in a ping pong ball and put it on the flash.
Cut an opening in a white film canister and put it on the flash.
I tried taping wax paper to the flash, but it needs to be fairly thick to work. Try folding it over at least 3 times.

Hope these help!
