I have a Canon Powershot S2 IS and have just ordered one of those bounce and swivel digital auto/slave flashes from the US because the seperate Canon one is rather limited. I also have ordered a Flipit diffuser. I am still trying to figure out how it will work when I get it. The problem I have with the internal flash is it tends to cause a lot of glare and if I turn the output down it becomes too dark (Except at very close proximity to the subject). Also red eye is a problem even with the red eye mode on.

The digital auto/slave flash will allow me to move it away from the camera lens and also do some bounce and diffuse stuff. I assume that by using this it will also stop the red eye? Or would the inbuilt flash still cause red eye? Perhaps turning the internal flash output to it's lowest would avoid this? But would it be enough to set off the sensor in the slave flash?

I really wish Canon would have included a PC cable link for an external flash.

Try a piece of toilet paper on some translucent tape and put it over the flash, a make-shift diffuser :)

I made a diffuser out of a bit of frosted plastic and some velcro (Woolly side stuck under the flip down flash on the S2. Loop side on bit of credit card cut and stuck to frosted plastic).

It's not very stable (angle is wrong to get a good push down of the velcro) but it works. I have receieved the slave flash and it works great. Waiting for my Flipit to arrive at the moment.
