Manual mode of nikonD 70 doesn't work??

Hello,I get only blank pictures in manual mode.I set the mode dial to M
focus mode selector to M
lens to M.
Ive set aperture and speeds to all settings but only get blank pictures.All other things of this BRAND NEW camera work fine but not manual.Now, I am new to this camera and have been trying to understand the zillion settings etc.and have been poking around in the menu and am wondering if by accident I set something I shoudn't have. I'm lost and puzzeled.Any help would be very appreciated.Thanks Jim

Sounds like you aren't getting your exposure right.

Go into P mode and take a pic. If it turns out OK...and it should...then note the aperture and shutter speed that the camera has set. Go to M mode and dial in the exact same shutter speed and aperture. You should get the same pic...assuming the light doesn't change.

If you still get nothing but a blank image using the same settings as P mode then there's something wrong with your camera. Take it back and get it replaced.
