Hey guys,
I was really bored, so I was just browsing the forums on dpreview.com, and i noticed how many childish, mean and derrogatory posts there are! Doesn't really seem like a place a person could learn from, and it makes me really thankful you guys here at dcresource are actually willing to teach people who have questions. Just one example: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1032&thread=16014226

yes, this site tends to be a lot more civil than the one in question. People can get pretty crazy!

Not really. If anything, I'd dare to say that they are fair to all, but give more of a nod to Canon.
There's always a few bad apples, but that sort of abusive (and immature) language should be sternly disallowed by the moderator. Too bad.
I've mostly encountered very respectful photography forums out there, invariably salted by know-it-all jerks.
Besides moderators; I've noticed how the classy examples set by the likes of George and others sort of influences others to follow suit. Whenever someone gets abusive and personal here, the subject seems to change immediately to scolding the offending posters with a pretty overwhelming participation (if it crosses the line - there can be a fine line between offensive and direct).
Ironic; (on your link) the loudest ones seem to have a pretty shallow understanding of their subject. Alas; I don't have the energy to go sign up there just to attempt a respecful yet informative post.
Related topic:
On one forum (that is usually very respectful) a few pros were chuckling over stories of how they had been abusive to people who innocently asked for a free photo. One had gotten a release for a sporting goods flier. The person in the photo asked for a print and was surprised at not getting it for free, he proceeded to say "that's OK, Ill just post the one in this flier" and the pro took it (the flier) from his hand and ripped it up.
Imagine having to go thru life with a head that large? I decided I'de not stroke his ego any further and I could get by without any further advice from his posts lest I have to thank him too much. Kind of a jerk for doing it but doubly a jerk for bragging about it.
