It's impossible to say what you want is possible if we don't know what size/quality of original you are starting with and what size you want to end with. If, for example, you are starting with a 1.3MP image and you want to enlarge it to a 2'x3' poster with the same quality as if you were printing a 4"x6" photo, then, no you cannot do it.

Ray,
I shoot a 4MP Olympus Camedia 4000 camera, sometimes I adjust the settings so that I can get up to 600 or so photos on one memory card. Sometimes the adjustment allows for only 60 some odd photos. I assume the lower adjustment gives better quality, not sure the tech s , guess I better see the camera tutor again. Would like some 2' x 3' posters. What amount of mega pixals do I need.? Do I need a different camera? Thank you so much for your response. Carla

Printing a 4MP image a 2'x3' will put you at about 63 pixels/inch which will not give you very good results. You can try resampling with Photoshop or some other image editing program, but that is probably not going to get you much better.

A program that I have used in the past with good results is Genuine Fractals. This is a Photoshop plug-in, so you would have to have Photoshop for it to work.

You can check out their website at http://www.ononesoftware.com/detail.php?prodLine_id=2

You might also try an online photo printing place. I have used Sams Club with good results. You can upload your photo have it printed and picked up at your local store. If you are not a member, Walmart offers a similar service at a slightly increased price. When you choose a size for printing, they will also tell you whether or not the size of your file is suitable for printing at the selected size. If the result is not satisfactory after they said your file was of sufficient size, I don't think that they will charge you.

Finally, to get the best results, use the highest quality/highest resolution setting on your camera at all times. There is nothing like having lowered the quality on your photos to save on a memory card to only discover that the photo you want enlarged is not of sufficient quality/resolution.
