We live close to Berlin and have the occasion to visit somewhat often when people fly in there to visit us in Poland (cheaper for them plus they get to see famous Berlin). I took some pretty interesting pics (at least to me) and wanted to share.

Don't know in which order they'll appear, but they are: the Sony Center (the UFO'ish looking thing), part of the existing Berlin wall, and a look at the Brandenburg Gate.

btw, I'm using a Nikon d50, sigma 18-200mm, and nikon sb-600 flash.

Never been to the Sony centre. is it in the middle of the city? It has all changed so much in the last 10 years. This is a reminder of old Berlin, and of some of those who died in more troubled times.

Glenn,
Those are nice pics. I don't recognize the 1st one. Where's that at??

The sony center is really only about 3 blocks up the street from the 'Gate' at potsdamer platz. It's sort of a strange place as it just has a couple stores like a sony store (duh) and a VW store (not a car dealer, but like a show-off store of sorts---like i said, sort of strange).

Living so close we have now been over there probably about 5 times, even once on a day-trip just to get some American food that we'd been craving (one being an egg mcmuffin! -- they don't sell them at the McD's in Poland). We really like the city but found it in the beginning to be less tourist-friendly than we'd anticipated. There's really a ton of exhibits and places which only display German. And while we are all about trying to be conscious of others' cultures and trying to function in their language, the Germans never seem too interested in working with us. According to our Polish friends, that's not b/c we're American, it's b/c they're German. :D Who knows.

I think that your Polish friends are right. People in most big cities can be a bit stand-offish, but in Berlin, maybe they're a bit worse than average !! The memorial. I took that about 3 years ago. I dimly recall that it is/was somewhere between Pariser Platz and the Reichstag. Somewhere around Clara Zetkin Straße??

So how does a Yank wash up in Poznan ? Not that there's anything wrong with Poznan, of course. I like it too. But its quite a way from Missouri (was that where you said you came from??).

Ich kann nicht mich erinnern. Ich muß alt werden. Genießen Sie Berlin, wenn Sie eine Gelegenheit erhalten zu besuchen.
