Vehicle storage?

I was in the habit of leaving my Olympus digi-cam in my vette for car shows or just grabbing pics in a parking lot somewhere. It would often sit for weeks in the summer without ever getting used. My car's asleep for the winter, but I still want to have my D50 on hand in my daily vehicle.

I snap pics after work of various things and was wondering if it's an issue with leaving it in my truck all day while at work.
Heat or cold have any effects? Not overnight or anything, but carrying into work everyday can become a drag.

? Nobody keeps a camera in their vehicle while at work or anything?

I don't have any form of camera bag so my camera lies in a cardboard box under the drivers seat quite regularly (like almost every day).
As summer is approaching in vehicle temps are getting up over 40C when the car is parked in the sun for any length of time. I haven't noticed any issues although I do make sure the camera is out of direct sunlight.
I have occasionally left it in the car overnight with temps in the 0 - 5C range and again no problems.
