Hello there, I have been lurking reading and trying to compile as much info
to make what I hope will be the correct purchase.

Budget

* What budget have you allocated for buying this camera? Please be as specific as possible.

[$800.00]

Size

* What size camera are you looking for? Or does size not matter at all to you?

[I do not have penis envy so size is not an issue for me.]

Features

How many megapixels will suffice for you?

[guessing at least 5 from my research.]

* What optical zoom will you need? (None, Standard = 3x-4x, Ultrazoom = 10x-12x, Other - Specify)

[pets, kids and sports I believe ultra.]

* How important is “image quality” to you? (Rate using a scale of 1-10)

10

Do you care for manual controls?

[now I have no clue but I intend to grow so in the future it would be nice.]

General Usage

* What will you generally use the camera for?

[all around usage with me being the primary user.]

* Will you be making big prints of your photos or not?

[remember that penis envy remark? if I like the pic I want the ability to blow it up large.]

Will you be shooting a lot of indoor photos or low light photos?

[the usual holiday photos and the like at party events.]

Will you be shooting sports and/or action photos?

[wakeboarding, snowboarding, soccer and gynmastics.]

Miscellaneous

Are there particular brands you like or hate?

[hate is such a strong word... I am looking at Canon & Nikon.]

Are there particular models you already have in mind?

( S2 IS and D50 )

(If applicable) Do you need any of the following special features? (Wide Angle, Image Stabilization, Weatherproof, Hotshoe, Rotating LCD)

[Image stabilization would be an asset as my hands are not that great.]

I have read lots of reviews ect. but that is why I am making this thread for real input. The S2IS looks to be a all around good unit with the IS/12x/5MP
and as a bonus video mode that is really quite good. But in six months will I
be wanting something more ie the D50.

Any help or insight would be great. :D
