Photo Lag Time

Is there any way to speed up the lag time when taking pictures? I have a Canon A95 and it seems like it takes forever from the time I press the button to the time it actually takes the picture. I miss so many great shots because of this and haven't been able to find anything in the manual to help.

You can use the scene mode "Kids and pets", this mode makes your camera use the hyperfocal distance, so it won't use the autofocus.
