Dear Paul (aka Bynx),

That's pretty damn good in my opinion for a webcam. I'd appreciate seeing a short video sample, or you posting more about its options re: video capture. I just bought a webcam for the first time and am interested in a better one. If the iSight cam can be used with my desktop PC ... may just buy one! :D P.S I like your beard :D

Thanks for sharing *hugs*

Fondly,

Rachel :)

P.P.S. Dear Alina (Borovikova), lovely photos dear! Thanks for sharing, the bare-soled wake-up photo was pretty good. :)

If nobody is going to ask I will....how the hell did you do that? Do you have a glass eye? It sure makes for an interesting photo. I can see another photo with your eye replaced with the camera lens and the camera lens replaced with your eye. Now that would be freaky. Good job man.

It's fairly simple in PS using layers and a layer mask. Line up the layer of the lens with the eye and mask what you don't want to show thru.

Yup... just copied and resized the lens of the camera, pasted it as a new layer and aligned it.

I like the "traditional" one, but I also like the "angelic" effect of the 2nd. Comments?

Tori,
Very pretty shots. Great job with the lighting. I can not pick a favorite, they are both very nice. 1/2 second, wow. The light source coming from your right causing a hair shadow on you face, that would be my only suggestion, little pp touchup there. You really did a nice job.

Tori, simply gorgeous!!! The light is perfect and you look beautiful!!:) I love both versions, the angelic one is so different from what I've seen, especially considering my own in-your-face self portraits:D....these are so easy on the eyes....ethereal. Keep more coming please!

Thanks, everyone!
Hokeyguy, you made me laugh right out loud when I noticed how you'd renamed my pics :D
Rich, 1/2 sec, crazy I know! I was using Aperture Priority and wasn't paying attention to the shutter speed. There's some blur, noticable at larger sizes, that I'm sure is motion blur. Good learning for next time ...
Lil', I'm glad you liked them! I made the "first" one in response to comments on flickr about the "angelic" one. I'm especially fond of the skin tones in the "first."

AdamW
09-30-2007, 03:57 PM
Tori--I really like the high-key effect on the first one. It serves your skin tone and hair color quite well. Very nice job. I'm not sure about "hot pic #2." I guess that style doesn't really do it for me.

Just stumbled across this thread this morning and several hours later (I'm on leave today) I've still only managed to skim through about 60% of the pages here! :-)

Wow, there's some really great shots here, too many to list, compliment or comment on, but here goes:
(as a brief attempt to acknowledge the inspirational & list some highlights for me):
Visually stunning &/or artistic:
Alnath, Alina Borovikova (goodmorninghair, bed & blue light!), jeffdalt, GabOrcinus, Kushnirenko's grey-life of AB's GMH, & many others,
Simply good photos (good composition etc) &/or simply good-looking people :):
Astro, Kushnirenko (Su15 & others), Bill Marwick, Speaklightly, Lilchilichoco, Cory's Lil Chica (fox-tail & rifle series in particular :D), Downtrodden, sbnr, mumbles420, darksyde, Yomny, domenic, snowrdr (great bike & Mt St Helens makes a stunning backdrop :)), photodawg, trucic (great use of B&W :)), BirdinHand, Toriaj (love the skin tones of hotpic#1, you look so different from the first SP in the Intro' thread posted there 29NOV06, not sure I like the low-contrast version in hotpic#2...) & many others, &
Scary/Funny pic's :):
Esoterra, Deadman, avi777, too funny guys ;) lol

Haven't got any SPs yet, but once I play around with the self-timer in Portrait mode on my new camera and maybe buy a tripod, I may post something if anything turns out ok, in the meantime one of my favourite pic's of myself (& my cat, Ariella :)) is in the Intro' thread, I may post a few other fav' pics of me by others later, :D

(What a fascinating way to spend several hours on a day off!)

Great work everyone!

Thanks, Benjamin. Yep, the self-portrait in the Intro thread was taken just a few weeks after I bought my camera. No PP, no special setup of any kind ... that shot is more of how I usually look.

Bynx, that SP really looks like how I'd imagined you! That doesn't happen often :D

Alright, here's my contribution to this thread. The first one isn't really a self portrait. Rather it's my girlfriend's interpretation of me using the Facebook graffiti application as her medium. The second one is a double self portrait of me and my girlfriend on a cloudy day at Montana de Oro SP.

Thanks Lilchili' :)

Here are my first attempts at self-portraiture. :)
To take the shots I was playing with some newly acquired accessories (& as yet unexplored camera functions): a power adaptor for the S5700, 10sec self-timer function in portrait mode and my first tripod, a Velbon Sherpa 600R, Wooooohoooo!!!! (This is a seriously fun tripod!)

First shot, at work with FinePixViewer processing images from the camera, in the chaos that is my study. :)
29793

Second shot, same scene, feigning shock/horror as the adorable Ariella (out of shot, but on screen) did what she loves the most, playing with the neck strap of my camera, which was still attached to it after I'd set it up on the tripod, during the last seconds of the ten second count-down!
(Of course I had nothing to worry about as the Velbon remained stationary and stable throughout the feline attentions!):D
29794

Enjoy!

TheWengler

Ah, both of my cats have attempted to pull my camera off of my desk when I've left the neck strap dangling. I need to be more careful. :o

Yep, cats just love going after things hanging off of the edges of tables, bench-tops etc!

The adorable/diabolical ;) Ariella has done just that about two days after I bought the camera!
Luckily I'd stowed it away in the sturdy Lowepro Edit 110, so although the bag & camera went for a dive over the edge of the dining table, the camera was safe'n'sound in the well padded Lowepro, no damage, how's that!.... luckily for me, just wouldn't want to do that for kicks every Saturday night!

I'd placed the bag too close to the edge of the table to remind me to take it with me to work the next day, so I could take some shots that night, and of course the strap was just too tempting for her...
Happily I haven't made that mistake again. :)

I am also experiencing the same thing - mind you I shouldn't complain!!
I got my tripod quite cheap around 25 years ago.!! It was fine for a lightweight Olympus OM2 - and my first 2 digicams - but my DSLR rocks back and forth on the thing with it's weight - I have to wait until it stops and very gently operate the shutter button (not got the remote yet) with the timer delay - even then I still sometimes get a blur!!!
So - similarly - no recent self portraits!!

Rather than make a double post, would you just take a look at my latest self-portraits (http://www.dcresource.com/forums/showthread.php?p=292905#post292905)?

Critique and suggestions always appreciated. This time I learned that even with AF, a stool is your friend for SPs :)

Tori, those look very nice.......the first one especially. The last one doesn't seem to have enough DOF and one of your eyes is out of focus, but I think you knew that. The first one looks spot on. Did you use i-TTL or did you adjust the flash manually? Looks like just enough.

Thanks, yep the large aperture got me on the 2nd one ... I adjusted the flash manually, based on what I saw in the LCD. I'm glad you like them :)

Simply beautiful, Tori! :)

tfa8rva has already commented on the DoF issue in the third photo re your right eye. I cann't make any intelligent comment about the flash, although I look forward to seeing more of your flash photography experiments and learning from you. :p:)

I love the last one too. Were you using window light?

Nope, I used to have studio lighting. I was playing with some cables and would randomly fire the shutter just in case, and I happened upon that one.

Thanks for the comments.

Well - not quite a self portrait - but one I asked for, I guess...
My daughter took this one of me, in the evening of 1st Jan ~
at my Mums at a family gathering...
I haven't processed this as I uploaded it to a photo site - which resized it for me - then I have just saved it back ~ so I expect there is a bit of quality loss..
Meanwhile - I reckon my daughter has a good eye for a photo...

A little more detail - my other hobby with a fellow rider using my camera

This one I snagged a frame off a video -

My previous hobby (no longer licensed) - but with pilot experience, let me take it through some sweet maneuvers - including a barrel roll! The ride was a Christmas present from my wife a couple years back.
