Esoterra,

Thank you for those beautiful shots. They bring back fond memories of the time I lived in the desert outside of Las Cruces, NM and I miss it alot.

Random question...completely off topic...but how much would an acre go for out there? Doesn't seem like there is much around...

I'm not sure. This is about 15 min. from Desert Hot Springs. I have a friend who lives up the road about 10 miles from the for sale sign. She has been thinking of selling her home on about 1/2 acre for $500,00.

The for sale property is to the right. This gives you a feel for what is around. You were right, not much.

I really like this shot George. It reminds me of a show oh the Outdoor channel called Outdoor Photography ...I think... with Mr. Chamberlain. :)

Thanks. I haven't seen that show. I have always thought of this shot as kind-of a cliche.;)

I really want to take some of these scenes over with the new lens, but the weather is just not cooperating. Sun, sun, and more sun...

Wait a minute... there's a cloud! Doh! missed it.;)

Guess that's why it's called the Valley Of The sun.

Weekend after next... Sedona, Flagstaff, and The Canyon. Can you say Snow? Woo Hoo!

Spring is almost upon is George, and the Senora desert is the place to be lol. I have heard wonderful things about the Senora state Park...(not sure of the correct name but I know it is something like that). I am planning on taking a trip out there in a few weeks, as well as Death Valley. We are having a bit of bad weather in Las Vegas as well- lots of rain, and even some snow. I am hoping that it will help the flowers bloom when the weather warms up in a few weeks.

Yeah, it's been a long dry spell, and the rain has been grazing us to the North quite a bit, but this weekend looks pretty promising.

Not sure about the state park, but places like Verde Valley, and Sedona should be real nice by about mid April. Summers here can be brutal, but the other 8 months of the year make it worth 115 degrees. Snowbirds have the right idea... maybe in 6 or 7 years. Summers in Oregon, winters in Arizona.:D

I missed getting up to Vegas for CES this year. Maybe I'll get up there in the summer to cool off.;)

Very nice, Chris. I envy you your "backyard"; I came from a rain-forest climate (Pacific NW) but I grew to love the desert during my four years in LA and San Diego.

Nice photos sir. I liked the desert in the winter, but when summer came I had to get out of there! I was looking for some pics of Joshua Trees I had taken but can't seem to find them.

Yes I agree lovely shots Chris. If I had a backyard like that I'd never do anything I'd just be forever looking at the view. Thanks for sharing your garden with us.

We got out first snow storm this year, in Las Vegas. I love it when we get weather that is unusual for our climate- I rekon it leads to some nice photos

Remember these in August...;)

We have a few feet in the mountains here as well. About 2 inches of rain here on the valley floor. Our first precip in 143 days.:)

I updated the photo to a larger version...

Nice pictures George. For some reason they remind me of Sedona. How far off am I? Also, was that picture taken with your 24-70 Sigma?

Last week with the Nevada Camera Club, we went out to the Las Vegas Wash (where all the water used from the city drains into Lake Mead). though it was rather windy, there were still some nice shots to be had. Here are a few pics that I was able to take.

As per the caption, that's a good guess...;) Picture taken with the 24-70. Like I said once that lens was on the camera I hate to take it off.

Real nice shots (as always). Vegas does a pretty good job of water recycling, in innovative ways. Speaking of Vegas, I am overdue for a trip to Southern Nevada. I try to donate a few $$ to the local economy at least once a year... Craps... It's a Karma thing...

Have you been to the cactus garden at Ethyl M? They also have a pretty unique industrial botanical water treatment system as well.

Summer is comming so the fun will be over in July. Although the monsoon rains here, in August, bring some spectacular weather shots. It's also a good time to shoot and cool-off up in Flagstaff, The Canyon, and the Mogollon RIM/White Montains.

Most of what I post here is included in my smugmug site. The recent stormy Sedona shots (which include the cepia shot) will be posted this week sometime.

George, thanks for the nice remarks. I didnt see the caption at the top of your thread ... my bad. I checked out your smugmug site and I have to say you have some really nice pictures. After seeing your Sedona pictures with your 24-70, Im getting excited for mine to arrive tomorrow morning. Did you use a polarizer at all?

I am planning on going to Ethyl M soon- taking pictures is great there even at night. If you ever head out this way, let me know... it would be fun to conduct a DCResource "field Trip" in Vegas for anyone interested.

Ohh here is a link the the gardens for anyone that hasnt been there.

No Polarizer. The lens is the key. I'm hoping that your copy is at least as good as mine. Sigma seems to be doing a better job of QC, so your chances are pretty good.

When the sky is blue in the desert you don't need a polarizer. A case in point:
