I'm satisfied that we got our money's worth out of our Kodak DCS 265 (May 1999) and need the upgrade. What's also very important is refresh between shots, and would *like* quick startup as well. Also would like AA batteries and compact flash.

Budget

* What budget have you allocated for buying this camera? Please be as specific as possible. Could spend as much as $1000, prefer around $400

Size

* What size camera are you looking for? Or does size not matter at all to you?
Flexible on size if other requirements met

Features

How many megapixels will suffice for you? 5 minimum.

* What optical zoom will you need? (None, Standard = 3x-4x, Ultrazoom = 10x-12x, Other - Specify) Believe 12x is a good target, but would consider less if lenses can be added. (We're always struggling the 3x zoom now)

* How important is “image quality” to you? (Rate using a scale of 1-10). 8 because we're not that sophisticated. Must print photo quality 8x10, would *like* to be able to go a little larger.

Do you care for manual controls? No

General Usage

* What will you generally use the camera for? Pictures of the kidsNdogs, indoor and outdoor.

* Will you be making big prints of your photos or not? Definitely

Will you be shooting a lot of indoor photos or low light photos? Yes

Will you be shooting sports and/or action photos? Yes

Miscellaneous

Are there particular brands you like or hate? Like Kodak

Are there particular models you already have in mind? Kodak P850, looking forward to the review.

(If applicable) Do you need any of the following special features? (Wide Angle, Image Stabilization, Weatherproof, Hotshoe, Rotating LCD). Image stabilization yes. Wide angle and weatherproof a plus, the other two don't need.

Looks to me like you've already made your decision and a good one at that. It looks like the 850 is everything you want. I personally have not used this camera, but it looks good on paper. I'd encourage you to find a place that carries it locally and literally go take some test shots with it to make sure everything is satisfactory as far as image quality. Afterall, image quality is why we buy a camera.
