View Full Version : museum settings

I'm rather new at using the manual settings on my A610 Canon and wondered if someone could give me the best setting for low light museum pictures (no flash allowed). Can someone give me some basic tips to try? Much appreciated.
try f2.8 at 1/60 sec or 1/50, ISO 200. if it's too dark then you'll have to go to the very noisy ISO 400 or take your chances handholding steadily at 1/40 sec. ISO 400 on a digicam might kill too much detail though.
i got very decent pictures at f4, ISO 800, 1/60 sec with my 17-40 f4 and 350D. sometimes i had to go down to 1/50 or 1/40 (monopod mounted with 1/40) where it was very dark (shadows). i didn't feel the need to go to ISO 1600. your f2.8 and extra DOF should make up for the f4 DOF and ISO 800 that i used. you might want to check out my thread in the general photography board concerning monopods if you're going to bring one.
