Hi all,

Currently deciding between the two ultra zoom cameras.
One's is a current model with 5 mp, has a smaller sensor & Leica Lens.
The other's a year old model with 8 mp, has slightly bigger sensor & Nikkon Lens.

I can get a second hand 8800 for about 100+ bucks more than the fz5.

Macros, Landscape, Snapshots, Concerts, maybe sports.
Day/Night shooting about 60/40.
Basically taking it everywhere with me.
I'm looking mainly at picture quality, not that concerned about the extra X2 zoom or the difference in size.

In your personal opinion, which camera should I get?
Is this a case where a newer camera(technology) is better?

Thanks in advance!

They both crap for night shooting.

The FZ-5 has a faster lens and better noise performance.

I own a 8800 and it is bad at low light shooting but with it's great lens and 8mp the outdoor shots are awesome. The two cameras that you have decided on are not in the same class. The Nikon is bigger, bulker but takes great pictures in good light. The Panasonic is small, light but takes noisy pictures. I was looking for a good fast camera for my daughter who shoots lots of indoor ice skating shots (my Nikon was a big disapointment) and was looking at the FZ5 but found the Fuji 5200 a better choice. It is lightning fast and has a faster ISO which works great in lower light settings. It is just slightly larger than the FZ5.
