I just need some recommendation on an external flash for the XT. Here are the choices that I would consider affordable:
SIGMA EF500DG SUPERFLASH E-TTL II
METZ 44 AF-3 C
METZ MB 44 AF-3C
METZ MB 54 MZ-4
METZ MB 44 AF-4C E-TTL
CANON SPEEDLITE 430EX FLASH
Basically, the Sigma and Metz, would there be a problem with compatability with the XT or should I stay with Canon 430EX to play it safe. Looking for an ability for manual setting.
Any input in appreciated.

what do you have against the 420EX?
It's a great flash and very affordable.

430EX. Supports E-TTL2 and you know it's 100% compatible with the XT (not that the super isn't but..)
Plus I think the 430 supports 17 mm wide angels too.

I have the 420EX. It seems to go as wide as 24mm although I haven't conducted a test at 17mm.

I just bought the Sigma EF500 Super, having problem understanding the manual. I set my camera to 1/60 F8, now, I want to manually set up the flash on to this setting. How do I do it? There isn't really much info, for me anyways, on how to do this on the manual.
I was going to buy the Canon 430EX but they were out of stock, but I think I will go with the 430EX once they have it.
I guess this would be directed to CDI-BUY

You don't set anything on the flash except Flash Exposure Compensation (if you need it). The flash will expose for the subject and the camera will expose for the background. If you need to focus then recompose, use the FEL (*) button for Flash Exposure Lock...which means...aim the center point on your subject, hit the button (on your camera), then recompose so that the flash knows that your subject isn't at the center AF point anymore.

Just got my XT today... tried using an external flash and it will not fire on any setting. I am using a PZ-1 (Quantaray) which I use with my 7Ne. The flash does adjust as I change the lense settings - but will not fire. The manual does not mention anything... Please - any suggestions???

You can use in manual mode your flash in you put a small piece of tape under the foor contacs. You only need the big centre pin to conect for the flash to fire. You will be in manual mode only.
