I recently purchased a W5 and a co-worker has a W7. Although everyone states that the only difference between the two cameras is the higher resolution on the W7, we noted a few differences - all of which are backed up by the owner's manual.

The W5 battery lasts longer - the W5 uses 1.1W and the W7 uses 1.2W (~10% difference).

The W5 can take ~30% more pictures in burst mode for the same resolution - e.g., 9 vs. 6 at the 5M/fine mode and 59 vs. 41 at the 1M/std mode.

The 3:2 mode is available on each camera ONLY at the highest resolution, so the W7 cannot shoot 3:2 at 5M.

The W7 has a higher "Smart Zoom" availability (14x vs. 12x at VGA res).

The W7 is more easily available in Black in the US.
