Thanks,ClintIn my opinion, the Canon A610 is the best $250.00 camera you can buy...5MP, plenty of manual control and room to grow (there are accessory lenses, flash, etc. available). It is a direct upgrade of the A95, one of the most popular digicams of all time. And, it takes AA batteries...always a plus...

Thanks,ClintLOL...you asked for the "best camera", not cameras!:D

Frankly, at that price point, there's nothing else I would recommend. Maybe someone else can offer an alternative...

No,the A610 will be just fine.Is the camera beginner friendly?

No,the A610 will be just fine.Is the camera beginner friendly? It has a very good Auto setting as well as a "Program Mode" setting which offers auto exposure but allows you to choose the ISO and the custom settings. Then, as you get comfortable, you can "graduate" to Av (aperture priority) mode and then Tv (shutter priority). And, when you're ready, you can take advantage of full manual controls and unleash the creative forces within. But, the camera works just fine as a point-and-shoot, if that's all you want. The video mode is quite good (and is easy to use) as well. And since there are lots of Canon Powershot users (plenty on this site alone...many more over at dpreview and Steves) you'll never have trouble finding help or advice if you need it...

I will second the recommendation for the A610. There's no better digital camera for the money at that price.
