View Full Version : Sony R1 Image Gallery Confusion

Greetings,

I recently downloaded several "original file" sample images of the Prototype and Production R1 cameras in the Gallery Section.

I compared the images of the "Red Tile Roof Building" in PhotoShop 7. The image from the Prototype camera was great. However, the image from the Production camera is awful. Compared with the Fuji S9000, the Sony "Production" image is a third class image.

There must be a reason. Were all images taken with the exact same settings at the same time of day? The "Production" version has a shaky blurred look to it. I would assume that these shots would normally be taken on a tripod ?

I'm just thoroughly confused. I would think that the production version would actually have the best image quality ???

Thank you for your consideration and feedback on this important issue. I had planned on ordering the R1 before Thanksgiving.

Best Regards,

Ron

Looks like a little camera shake to me. Is it just this one image or all the images? He probably had a bunch of cameras to work with that day and got it messed up by accident.

Hi Rex,

Thanks for your thoughts. I'll compare the other images this evening against each other: From the Protoype camera vs. the Production Camera.

Best Regards,
Ron

Yeah, I noticed that too. The pre-production shot was very nice. The production camera shot was not.

The EXIF shows the shutter speed on the shot of the street sign (DSC00013) that reads "Escondido Mall", was taken at 1/320, ISO 160. Camera movement at that speed? I must say that I've taken sharper images than that with my 707 and it has no IS either.

I would give some serious thought to buying the R1 tomorrow, if I could get my hands on a pre-production model.
