Powershot S2 IS apeture only to f8.. I guess that is common .. but wouldn't it be better to have a larger range?

Pretty much all point and shoot digitals only go to f/8. The trouble is that the lens is so small to begin with that diffraction starts becoming a big problem with apertures smaller than that.

It has never even been close to a problem for me in 5 months of every-single day-real-life shooting...you can argue the esoteric, but when it comes down to reality, it hasn't been an issue and I don't ever expect it to be one...

Plus, F8 on a compact PnS is like having an F30 or something crazy like that on a dSLR. If depth of field is your concern, F8 on a PnS is PLENTY.

only reason why you would want more on a p&s is for longer exposure shots. and for that you could get an adaptor and stack on some ND filters.
