Sony P200 flash problem

Bought the unit two days ago. The flash doesn't work very often. It flickers but produces dark images. Is this common or should I get it to Sony repairs? or can anyone help me with this problem?

I'm not sure but it sounds like you might have a problem although the flash is weak on this camera. Try doing the following and see if it helps.

Turn off red eye reduction if it is on. Put your camera in the P mode and hit menu. Scroll right and select Red Eye Reduction and turn it off.

Still in P mode and in the menu scroll left to flash level and select +. This seemed to help with my flash more than anything.

Scroll left again and make sure that Normal is selected in REC Mode. The flash will not work in Burst or Multi Burst.

I hope this helps you out but remember that I'm no expert, just a guy with a camera.

got my p200 for about 4 month. worked fine over the summer in quite extreme climatic conditions. however now flash pics come out either too dark or too bright - really anoying. heard some reporting similar problems. did you get it fixed for free by sony?? whats the procedure to have it serviced? thanks miko.

Go to the chat function and you can talk to a Sony tech who will trouble shoot your problem. If he can't resolve your issue he may recommend returning the camera for repair.

I have the same problem. I bought the camera about a month ago and the flash worked all right but now it flickers in different ways everytime I use the flash, getting dark pictures from time to time (allmost everytime). I took the camera to a Sony Service and Repair center and they told me I had to change the flash unit. What a dissapointment.

My P200 had flash problems as well. The flash would go off but the pictures would be dark. Turns out the pre-flash was working but the main flash wasn't going off. Sent it back to Sony for repair and it's worked fine for about 2 months.
