I'm new to photography and to digital photography, so could use a little help. I have a Canon S-2 that works very well in the Auto mode. However, when I take shots of moving objects (especially using the digital zoom), they turn out blurry. What mode should I use (using what settings) so the photos are not blurry?

It really depends on the lighting situation. I started out using the Av setting, and set the Aperture to 3.5 (2.7 would be ideal, but when zoomed in it goes to 3.5 anyways). You do NOT want to use digital zoom, if possible. Try to avoid it. Digital zoom makes the images look crappy.

If your camera can't stop the action with those settings, you will need to up the ISO to 100 or 200. I would try to avoid 400, unless absolutely necessary.

If your camera still can't quite stop the action, you can adjust the exposure compensation down a bit, so it will expose a little faster (and thus darkening the image). A little underexposure is fine and you can fix it in software later. Too much underexposure and you lose a lot of image information/details.

All the while doing this, make note of the shutter speed the camera is chosing. You want to get as close to 1/500 as possible. Sometimes you can stop the action with a slower speed, but it's always nice to have as fast a shutter as will allow.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info, SWGOD98. I appreciate your advice.

One more question......What do you mean by "exposure compensation"?
