SD500 Mic

I have the SD500 for about 5 months now and I just love it. Pictures are great, video is great. The one question I have is with the microphone on it. I have taken the camera to a couple of concerts and the video is great but the sound is all crackly. At first I though maybe my finger was over the mic, so I made sure the next time that it was not. Someone told me that the mic was to small for that large sound from the concerts. Is this true, anyone else used the camera at a concert and have the same result. Is there a fix or is it something I would have to live with.
