View Full Version : Advice on EF Macro Lens
I have a 5d & 20d. Looking for a good Macro lens for close up work and sharp portraits. Any ideas? I've read other posts with recommendations for the 100 f2 and the 135L but what are the good ones? Through experience. This must be a razor sharp lens (L)....

The best in the business is the EF 180mm f/3.5 L USM. Neither of the two you mentioned (135mm f/2 or 100mm f/2) are macro lenses so I'm a bit confused.
The EF 100mm f/2.8 USM is also very sharp, as is the older EF 50mm f/2.5 Compact Macro (although you will also need the Life Size Converter to go to 1:1 for the 50mm).
If you are shooting portraits as well, I would exclude the 50mm and choose either the 180mm or 100mm depending on your preferred working distance/budget etc.
