I went to a local retailer, London Drugs, to test the A610 today. I was actually going to buy it today as well if everything turned out right, but I did come across some problems:

Everyone already knows that the I/O ports cover is extremely flimsy and on the cheap side, but I have found another interesting problem. On some of the A610 cameras the I/O ports cover does not close properly with the edge of the plastic cover towards the top refusing to close. You have to force it down for it to actually close properly. The sales clerk went to check the stock of the A610's for one with an I/O ports cover that didn't have this problem and found one. Their stock consisted of 4 cameras (one on display). Only 2 out of the 4 actually had I/O port covers that did close properly (one being the display model). I don't know if this is just a bad shipment to this retailer, but this problem did strike me as odd.

The clerk brought me the only other camera besides the display model that had a proper closing I/O port cover, but to my dismay, the zoom controller (wrapped around the shutter release) of this camera was covered in some sort of residue that would not come off with cleaner. This is just a minor problem since the other cameras in their stock didnt have this problem. Unfortunately for me, I have to get to another London Drugs location to purchase one of these cameras without either of these problems I've noticed. The clerk tracked down one at a different location of London Drugs that does not have these problems. I will purchase it there tomorrow and will update if I find any other problems.

I encourage you to leave a post if you have experience either of these problems or if you have never even seen any of these problems before. Thanks!

Hi,

I've just got my Canon A610 today and it seems to me that the cover wouldn't be worse. Closing problem at the top is vital as well. Unfortunately I couldn't check before the purchase because I ordered from Ebuyer and I doubt they can replace the product.

But it's nothing against the memory card error I've got.
I put in Corsair 1GB 133x SD memory card and "memory card error" has occured. I was really confused  of this.
I was googling to find the reason and it turned out that many, many people experience the same problem with ealier versions of the A serie and other ones as well. Unfortunately I couldn't find posts from the A610 users (maybe the problem relates only to my camera??).

I rung canon support up and I found out that they recommend only SanDisks.
I haven't bought it yet, but what I can say, they are much more expensive than competitors.

Could anybody who has experienced the same problem drop me a line? I would appreciate that.

Thanks,
Rob

What memory is much cheaper than SD? I'm browsing through bestbuy.com and circuitycity.com and they all look about the same to me. About $25 for 128, $40 for 256, $60 for 512.
