I currently have the option to purchase either a Pentax istDS or a Canon S2IS for the same price. I have BOTH cameras here with me now and am trying to figure out wich one to return. Why DO I need or anyone else need an SLR ??

I have ONLY taken in door tests so far and.................. The S2IS is MUCH better for in door low light shooting. The Pentax is dark and needs alot of light. I have ONLY tested the two under low in door lighting so far.

I'm STILL undecided !!

istDS has a really good price for a SLR!

i just bought a FZ30, among my considerations included a canon S2 IS

an interesting article here http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/panasonic_lumix_dmc-fz30_canon_eos-20d_camera_shootout/default.asp

The S2 better than the Pentax for low light? No way in heck that can be true. Its like comparing apples and oranges... the two cameras are so different. I recommend reading some more online reviews before making your decision. http://www.dpreview.com/ has reviews on both models. To put it simply, the Pentax *DS is much better "bang for buck" than the S2 with your deal; but of course it all depends on your needs. If you like video, don't want the hassle of buying & changing lenses, and like a large feature set, get the S2. It will give you lots of room to grow since it has extensive manual controls and tweakability.

But you can get both at the same price!?! Wow, if I had such an offer, I'd be holding a Pentax *st right now instead of my S2. Not that the S2 is bad or anything - I really like my S2 :)
