I've been thinking about switching to a dSLR, so I was wondering if the 20D is worth the price difference when compared to the XT?

The price difference is almost the same even after rebates, but instead of $750/$1250, they now cost $525/$950. I think that at $950, the 20D is very worth the money, but you can hop for the XT and put that saved money towards a lens you wouldn't otherwise have bought. Whatvever you do, I highly encourage you NOT to buy the kit and to buy TWO lenses to maximize your savings.

I would say only buy two lenses if it is indeed 2 canon lenses you want, in some cases it is a better and/or cheaper idea to buy 3rd party lenses from Tamron, Sigma or even Tokina. Just buy what you really would like and is best for your budget, only then worry about maximizing rebates.
I do not know what your priorities are with your camera choice. The XT is significantly smaller and lighter than the 20D, something I find a big plus, its easier to take along and lighter to carry around.
Some find the XT and its grip too small to live with, I find that its very overstated (people can easily work with little compact cameras but a DSLR needs to be perfectly shaped? I find my 350D to be very usable and have no problem with its smaller grip, mainly because I do not have the other SLR's next to it to compare every day! You get used to what you have and then all is fine. I do not want a cellphone that has a perfect grip either (boy that would be HUGE) for instance).
The 20D mainly is built more robust and its user interface is more "refined" in some areas. In image quality and features they are very close. The 20D's shutter is more noisy. Go see them both for your personal preference in size, weight and comfort.
