Hi All!

Another question from the new girl ... Is it necessary to buy to the Sony brand memory stick, or will an off-brand do just as well? ... And why are they so dang expensive compared to other types of memory?? (rhetorical question!) :)

Thanks a bunch!

They are expensive because there are few manufacturers making them. There are few manufacturers making them because they only work in Sony cameras. Any brand should work but there are many different versions of Memory Sticks (Pro, Duo, etc) make sure you have the right one.

I had the same questions when I got a DSV-V3 this summer, but went with a SONY for a few reasons (bought a 1 gig).

1) it was just 20$ more

2) I figured no chance of a compatibility problem if I went with a SONY whereas other brands would be an unknown.

3) I got the camera free so spending over $120 for a memory card didn't bother me as much as it would have if I had shelled out $600 for the camera.

To me the most important reason was #2 above

There is essentially no danger of a compatibility problem with a 3rd party memory stick. They will all work with any Sony product.
