I was supprised to find out that there is no movie mode on Rebel XT, am I correct? There is no way to take short movie clips with this camera?

Yes, no DSLR includes a movie mode. Because of the technical limitations of the same large sensors that give such outstanding photos, DSLRs are not able to shoot video, or show live previews on the LCD screen.

If either of these capabilities are crucial for you, don't buy a DSLR.
