My Casio E600 was stolen and I need a replacement that is compact with high resolution to use for both medical photography in my well-lit clinic (portrait to macro range) and for general travel, family gathering day to day type situations. I've narrowed my choices to the Canon S80 and Fuji E900. The S80 is shipping and the Fuji is due in November, but I suspect it might be worth waiting for, especially if it is a step up on the E550. There are features I like about both cameras: I am not sure how well these are implemented. Both have 4x zooms starting from a relatively wide angle. Both are 8 Mp or better. Memory storage and availability of RAW are not important to me. The Fuji sensor is interesting, but Canon has a reputation for excellent pictures. I'd like to hear positve and negative experiences with both.

Since you ordered both models, I'd love to know which one you think has better image quality. I am leaning towards the S80 for its wide angle lens and build quality + SD cards. I respect Fuji very much, but I worry that 9 mps. is overkill for that sensor and may produce noisy shots.

Does any one have any links to any S80 reviews? I know th DC Resource review is coming early next month, but I wanted to know if there is anything else out there that can give me some hands on info.

It's too early to say which is the better camera, but you already know roughly what the image quality of the E900 will be like (check the S9500). While the lens is different, that gives you an idea of what to expect. If you like the E550 and can live with its quirks, you'll love the E900, otherwise the S80 is probably a safer bet.

Well I got my S80 today, and I pretty sure I made the right choice for me. It's ridiculous how much nicer it is over the Coolpix 7900 I bought on a whim about 2 months ago. (and sold on ebay about 15 days later) I was just impatient not wanting to wait for the S80 but live and learn.
