Passion flowers grow wild here and the fruit is actually edible... although this one is a bit past it's prime. Just out shooting with the new lens and my subjects are a bit limited this time of year.:D

Grace - that's nice & sharp - no focus problems there!
Nice lens!!!
I still like the way your pics come out and I wonder if you may have solved the focus issue with the different focus mode - I did the same on the A-200 - mostly I use the moveable square (rectangle) sometimes the moveable cross and very rarely now the large area as it often chooses a different point to focus on. The movable square is cool s it is quick and easy to use.

Thanks Geoff. I do believe the focus issue is solved. I'm having a blast with it now. Just wish I had more available subjects this time of year.:)

Just one final thought - did you try going back to your other lenses and
trying the different ficus mode??

Geoff, I haven't switched from the new lens back to the old yet... been too busy playing with the new one only right now. I hope to have a FEW minutes tomorrow in between packing to do a bit of comparison between the old and new lenses, so I'll see then how the old lenses do on the center focus area setting. I really think everything is going to be O.K. with the camera now. I'll let you know how the continued testing goes although it might be several days before I can post any results.

Great - should be interesting
Also - with the centre square & if it's like mine - you can move the focus point
around whcih is usefull sometimes

The 7D has 9 focus areas from which to choose within the rectangle... the center being where I currently have it set. I will probably use the center point most of the time, then crop in PS for the best composition. I might play with the other areas at some point... I've just never used them yet.

I am pretty sure that the 7D allows to focus in center, then keep the stutter button half pressed and recompose! If it doesn't you probably have to change autofocus mode.
ps: this discussion is probably better suited to a camera related forum subject?

I've always pressed the shutter button half way to focus, but if it's set on the wide focus area, it will still often focus on the wrong thing. That's what the whole discussion was about... and that's why I now have it set to the center focus area now when shooting such subjects as above.
